Question of the week with Nomi

Q: I am a satisfied customer of DigestLIVE! Do I need to take probiotics if I'm already taking your supplements?

A: Hi Josefina,

This is Nomi, the head nutritionist over here at DigestLive.  I am so happy to hear that you are happy with our product!
Regarding your question, DigestLive is not a probiotic but does contain some prebiotic fibers (those are the fibers that feed the happy bacteria in your gut).  Though I would not consider it a prebiotic, specifically.
Whether or not a person needs probiotics, and which probiotic, is individual to each person's health.  Probiotics are strain-specific, which means that specific strains have been researched to ameliorate certain conditions. As a clinical nutritionist I do not recommend probiotics without doing a full assessment and then I look into the human clinical trials to match the strain to the condition.
In regards specifically to constipation, these strains have been proven to be helpful for treating constipation.
  • Bifidobacterium animalis ssp lactis DN 173 010
  • Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12
  • Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938
  • Lactobacilluscasei CRL 431
I would discuss with your doctor the use of supplementation and I would do an assessment with a clinical nutritionist or dietitian before starting a supplementation routine.  Often people do not need a probiotic as much as they need a prebiotic and dietary support. Having some one-on-one guidance can help you make an informed decision for your best health.
I hope this is helpful!
Have a great day,
Nomi
